Antenna Connector Quick Guide
Look at the jack on your radio, match the picture, and click the adapter you need.
If you’re not sure, email [email protected] and include a photo of your radio’s antenna jack.
Screw-on (small) • center has a hole
This is on your radio: SMA-FEMALE
It mates with: SMA-MALE antennas/adapters (pin).
Common radios: Motorola APX 1000/2000/3000/4000/6000/7000/8000, SRX2200; Harris XG-100P, XL-185P, XL-200P, P5300/P5400/P5500/P7300; Yaesu FT-60R.
Shop adapters:
- SMA-M → BNC-F (for BNC-male cables/antennas)
- SMA-M → TNC-F (rugged threaded)
- SMA-M ↔ SMA-M coupler (if your antenna also has a hole/SMA-F)
Tip: Don’t use pliers on SMA; hand-tight only.
Screw-on (small) • center has a pin
This is on your radio: SMA-MALE
It mates with: SMA-FEMALE antennas/adapters (hole).
Common radios: Kenwood TK-2180/TK-3180; Kenwood NX-200/300/3200/3300/5200/5300/5400; Baofeng UV-5R/UV-82/BF-888S families; some Hytera PD6/X1.
Shop adapters:
- SMA-F → BNC-F (for BNC-male cables/antennas)
- SMA-F → TNC-F (rugged threaded)
- SMA-F ↔ SMA-F coupler (if your antenna also has a pin/SMA-M)
Tip: If both sides are pins, you need a double-female coupler.
Quick-turn (bayonet)
This is on your radio: BNC-FEMALE
It mates with: BNC-MALE plugs.
Common radios: Icom IC-V80; Icom IC-A25 (aviation).
Shop adapters:
- BNC-M → SMA-F (to use SMA-male antennas/cables)
- BNC-M → TNC-F
Note: Use 50 Ω BNC for radios.
Short “stud” with shoulder (Motorola)
This is on your radio: Motorola MX stud
It mates with: MX-specific antennas/adapters only (not SMA).
Common radios: MOTOTRBO XPR 7550(e)/7580(e), DP4400/DP4600/DP4800 families.
Shop adapters:
Do not force SMA parts—use MX-specific only.
Icom “J/MX” boss
This is on your radio: Icom J/MX (proprietary)
It mates with: a J→BNC adapter first, then BNC accessories.
Common radios: Icom IC-F3/F3S/F4/F4S; IC-F11/F14/F21/F24; IC-F31/F33/F43 families.
Shop adapters:
Use a short pigtail after the adapter to reduce strain.
Recessed / shrouded screw-on
This is on your radio: Shrouded SMA
It mates with: series-specific adapters (longer collar to clear shroud).
Common radios: Baofeng UV-9R / UV-9R Plus / GT-3WP family.
Shop adapters:
Generic SMA parts may not seat—use UV-9R-specific.
Hytera AP/BP (R-connector) & HP/PD/X1 (SMA)
This is on your radio: AP/BP = R-connector; HP/PD/X1 = SMA.
Common radios: AP510/515; BP510/515/560/565 (R-connector). HP6/HP7; PD6/X1 (SMA).
Shop adapters:
Some frames have shrouds; hand-tight only.
